The Unum programs can complement existing Medical coverage and help fill financial gaps caused by out-of-pocket expenses including deductibles, co-insurance, non-covered medical expenses and personal expenses.
Accident Insurance from Unum helps relieve financial strain for employees in the event of a covered accident, while also helping to curb costs. Claims payments are made in flat amounts based on services incurred during an accident.
What does accident insurance cover?
Accident insurance provides benefits for more than 80 accidental injuries, related expenses and treatments in each of the following coverage categories. The benefit amount depends on the type of injury and care received. Benefits are paid according to a fixed schedule regardless of any other coverage you may have, and you can spend it any way you choose. Based on you and your family’s needs, you can elect coverage for yourself, for your spouse and/or children.
You will be given the option to pick from two different plan options, but each plan has benefits for:
- Initial care (ER, urgent care)
- Dislocations/Fractures
- Dismemberment
- Diagnostic exams
Critical Illness Insurance (CI) from Unum provides a financial, lump-sum benefit to employees upon diagnosis of a covered illness. These covered illnesses are typically very severe and likely to render the affected person incapable of working. Because of the financial strain these illnesses can place on individuals and families, critical illness insurance is designed to help ill employees pay the mortgage, seek experimental treatment or handle unexpected medical expenses.
You will have the choice of a plan with $10,000, $20,000, or $30,000 of Critical Illness Coverage. You may choose to elect coverage for employee only or you may choose to include coverage for your spouse. Dependent children are automatically covered at 50% of employee benefit.
You will be given the option to pick from three different plan options, but each plan has benefits for:
- Cancer
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Coronary artery bypass
- Major organ transplant
- End stage renal (kidney) failure
- Bone marrow transplant
- and more

You will be given the option to pick from two different plan options, but each plan has benefits for:
- First day ICU confinement – accident and sickness
